Our theme for this quarter is “I am Earth” - so we are asking - where on Earth do you Oula? Me - I usually Oula at Viva Arts in Seattle - a small capoeira studio with big speakers. Oula One? For me, it’s by an elementary school playground, hoping that a stray softball doesn’t fly my way while I’m in pigeon pose. How about you? Read our feature “Where on Earth?” to hear more about people’s favorite places in the world to do Oula.

“I am Earth” can also be about who you are and how you are grounded in the world. Oulakin Christina shares a bit about herself and what’s important to her in our Oulakin of the quarter feature.

Or “I am Earth” can be more universal. Our movement grounds and connects us with the world and the elements. Check out our “I am Earth” theme playlist danced by X on the Online Studio to explore how you feel connecting to this elements.

“I am Earth” is also an appropriate theme as we grieve, honor, and celebrate the life of Bernice Brown Johnston, who passed away in August. Bernice, known as B, shaped what Oula is today -  a mind and body experience interlaced with humor, joy and fun that allows us all to connect with each other, our community, and the world around us. Please read more about B and her legacy and consider donating to the Scholarship Fund we’ve established in her name to support future Oula instructors.

Wishing you all a peaceful, grounded and connected autumn.

Jesse
